#120: What Weight Loss Won’t Solve

My insightful and inspiring client Kimberly joins us to discuss her experience growing up feeling bigger than she “should be”, the decision to get weight loss surgery, and the complexities that came afterwards.

Our culture teaches us to believe that weight loss would bring you certain things: acceptance, status, love, success, health, happiness, and more. So many of us believed the promises diet culture made when it repeatedly sold us the lie that the picture of life perfection will accompany a certain body size if only we make ourselves small enough. Kimberly bravely shares her journey to realizing that diet culture’s lies are in fact just lies, and how she got onto a path of healing.

She speaks from the heart in bravely sharing her body story — from childhood adversity and weight stigma, to the decision to get weight loss surgery, to dealing with the traumatic aftermath of that experience, to learning how to create real safety and belonging in her life.

Tune in to hear more about…

  • Kimberly’s journey from seeking external validation through weight loss to finding internal trust and self-acceptance.

  • Her decision to get weight-loss surgery and what she wishes she knew back then.

  • The severe physical, mental, and emotional side effects of the surgery.

  • Why Kimberly wanted to get the surgery reversed.
